The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

Book review: The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

Title: The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles #2)
Author: Mary E. Pearson
Genre: YA

The second book in a trilogy often ends up being filler, like Coffee Crisp in a box of tiny Halloween chocolate bars. The Remnant Chronicles, however, is an exception - the second book is EVEN BETTER than the first!

I was like, "So Lia is imprisoned in a walled city. Clearly not much is going to happen here." But I was wrong. SO MUCH HAPPENS. Secret passages are found, secret identities exposed, secret basement activities are discovered, and secret prophesies are revealed.

My favourite part, though, was Lia. She becomes Katniss-level analytical in this book. She evaluates her situation, figures out what she needs to do to survive, then bluffs the shit out of everybody.

I REALLY loved this book. There are a lot of layers here about prejudices, war, love, betrayal and bystanders, but Pearson weaves it all together perfectly.

Buy it now, you will not be sorry (link is to Amazon).

VERDICT:

5/5 Brass Knuckles

Full disclosure: I bought it with my own money, and I can't wait for the third book to be released in August.
