The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

Book review: The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

Title: The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles #1)
Author: Mary E. Pearson
Genre: YA

Lia is the First Daughter of the King of Morrighan, and as such, she is subject to a bullshit arranged marriage with another kingdom.

The morning of her wedding, Lia goes "Fuck this," and takes off with her wedding cloak: a jewel-encrusted family heirloom. She pries the jewels off and uses them to buy essentials for survival. In other words, Lia is NOT FUCKING AROUND.

Lia and her friend Pauline make their way to a quaint village, where they begin new lives as tavern maids. Then one night, two men stroll into the tavern. One is the prince who Lia jilted, and the other is an assassin sent to kill her. BUT WHICH IS WHICH?

I really really loved The Adoration of Jenna Fox, which is also by Mary E. Pearson, so I had high hopes for this book. It was generally very good, but there is a VERY annoying plot twist near the end. This is still totally worth reading, but be prepared to sigh heavily and roll your eyes at one point. Someone read this so I can complain more specifically!

Buy it on Amazon.

4/5 Brass Knuckles - it would have been 5 if not for the fucking plot twist.

Full disclosure: I bought it with my hard-earned cash.
