Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Review of Red Queen: So it's the future, and some people have silver blood and magic powers, and those people are obviously awesome and in charge. The dull normals with red blood are peasants and servants, and they mostly fight in a war that the Silvers declared because someone insulted their hair or something.

So it's the future, and some people have silver blood and magic powers, and those people are obviously awesome and in charge. The dull normals with red blood are peasants and servants, and they mostly fight in a war that the Silvers declared because someone insulted their hair or something.

Mare is Red, but she has magic powers TOO and so the royal family decides to keep her close, in order to hide the fact that Reds can also kick ass.

Then Mare is like, "Fuck this!" And she joins the Red Resistance.

Also there is a love square in this book, but it has the BEST RESOLUTION EVER that I can't tell you because I'll ruin things, but Mare has a really sweet line near the end.

This book has A LOT of hype. It doesn't quite live up to that because it relies HEAVILY on tropes: boring girl turns out to be special girl; peasant becomes a princess; caste system causing rebellion, etc etc etc.

BUT it is still really good. Buy it because you will be 600th in line at the library (link is to Amazon).

VERDICT:

4/5 Brass Knuckles

Full disclosure: I borrowed this book from my sister and then I lent it to another sister. Environmentally friendly!
