Omens by Kelly Armstrong

In Kelly Armstrong's newest series, Olivia can read omens. They are never about fluffy kittens. On the contrary, she sees a lot of dead people. As if this isn't bad enough, Olivia discovers that she is adopted, and her birth parents are serial killers. Things are not going well for Olivia.

Title: Omens
Author: Kelly Armstrong
Genre: Fiction

Have you ever noticed that omens are always bad? You never see omens that mean you're about to find really flattering jeans, or that there will be no traffic on your way to work. It's always death and storms and UGH.

In Kelly Armstrong's newest series, Olivia can read omens. True to form, they are never about fluffy kittens. On the contrary, she sees a lot of dead people. As if this isn't bad enough, Olivia discovers that she is adopted, and her birth parents are serial killers. Things are not going well for Olivia.

She is intrepid, however, and moves to an isolated town in order to research her parents' crimes, hoping that they are innocent (as they have always claimed). In Cainsville, there are a shit-ton of gargoyles and creepy old people who are not what they seem.

I really really wanted to know what the fuck is going on in Cainsville. Olivia does not figure it out in this book. She is so used to weird shit happening, she barely notices the strange quirks of the town and townsfolk. Two owls just tore a raven to shreds? SHRUG!

Despite this, I really liked Olivia, and I want to know whether or not her parents are evil. And also if the people of Cainsville are some old-school Celtic monsters or something (I think YES).

I liked it! Buy or borrow it!

VERDICT:

3/5 Brass Knuckles

Full disclosure: I got it from my sister, who bought it second-hand. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
