Emily Bird attends a party where she rubs shoulders with Washington's elite. Eight days later, she wakes up in the hospital. A mysterious flu has shut down the city and much of the world while she slept.

A shady national security contractor tells her that she took some bad drugs at the party, which is what lead to her coma and memory loss. BUT SHE WOULDN'T DO THAT, YOU GUYS.

Emily returns to her prep school, but her steps are haunted by the security dude, who thinks she has critical information about the flu. She wants him to fuck off, and she needs to remember what happened at that party.

This is sort of an apocalyptic novel, but it feels very real and believable. It covers a multitude of issues, including drugs, classism, racism, love, and homeland security. The writing is really beautiful, and the action and mystery move quickly.
