End of Days by Susan Ee

End of Days by Susan Ee: Penryn continues to be seriously tough, smart and funny. She inherits an angel sword, disguises it with a teddy bear in a dress, and names the blade Pooky Bear. But man, does she ever kick a lot of ass with it.

Title: End of Days (Penryn & the End of Days, book 3)
Author: Susan Ee
Genre: YA

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. Where do I start??

You can read my review of book 1, Angelfall, here. Book two is just as intense and wonderful.

And book three KICKS ASS. I was worried. Trilogies like Divergent made me worry - would everything we've been through with Penryn be for NOTHING? Ee does not hold back from tragedy in her books, but the ending of the series is very satisfying. Let's count the ways.

1) Penryn continues to be fucking tough, smart and funny. She inherits an angel sword, disguises it with a teddy bear in a dress, and names the blade Pooky Bear. But man, does she ever kick a lot of ass with it.

2) The series was clearly plotted as a SERIES. You know how sometimes, the first book in a series is great, the second is so-so, and the third is just a flop? (I'm looking at you again, Divergent!) Susan Ee definitely intended this to be a trilogy. There are little things from the first book that find their way into the third and suddenly make sense.

3) The action never. Lets. Up. EVER. This book is fucking intense, but the humour and love stories (both platonic and romantic) mean that it never gets repetitive or dull.

I do have one warning. Make sure you have a good chunk of time to read this when you start, because you will NOT be able to stop. I ignored my kids for two days straight while I obsessively read this. Thanks for the help, TV!

SO AMAZING, BUY IT NOW!

VERDICT:

5/5 Brass Knuckles and my eternal love

Full disclosure: I got an advance copy for free from the publisher, which is how I got it read so quickly.
