Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

Review of Seraphina by Rachel Hartman: In this book, dragons are big and mean, but also fucking SMART and ruled by logic. And they can shrink down into human shapes.

Title: Seraphina
Author: Rachel Hartman
Genre: YA

Seraphina is completely different than all the other dragon books out there. In this book, dragons are big and mean, but also fucking SMART and ruled by logic. And they can shrink down into human shapes.

Dragons are living alongside humans in a state of uneasy peace. But people are assholes, and they treat the dragons as second-class citizens - or worse.

That's bad news for Seraphina, who is half-dragon. Silver scales cover her forearms and waist. and she spends her time making shit up so that no one will suspect her mother was a dragon. If anyone discovers her secret, she's toast.

Seraphina is wickedly smart, musically gifted, and heroic. But she's also an abomination.

So it's unfortunate that Prince Lucian Kiggs, head of the palace guard, has taken an interest in her. Especially since he has a knack for solving mysteries. On top of that, he's particularly interested in dragons at the moment because his uncle appears to have been killed by one.

I love this book so much, I want to marry it. It's the kind of book you can read over and over without ever getting tired of it.

Buy it immediately, and then buy the sequel.

VERDICT:

5/5 Brass Knuckles

Full disclosure: I bought this book twice because the softcover has a new cover image and I'm a nerd like that.
